I helped a friend of mine create ideal client profiles this morning over breakfast. As I finished off my egg white omelet, he talked about some of the characteristics that his prospects share. He struggled to come up with a composite that considered all of the unique attributes of his particular client base. As I asked him questions, we finally landed on a few sketches that represent the clients that he works best with. We dug deep to identify who those people are, what they think, what they want, what they like, what they’re afraid of, what they dream to accomplish in life, what they care deeply about, and on and on. When we were finished we had concrete, real life pictures of people – people who are good prospects and clients for him. Now he knows exactly who his ideal customers are and he can market directly to them. Take the time to create an ideal customer profile and then direct your marketing right at them. If you’ve done your homework correctly and you know your target market, you’ll be amazed at the results.
