Helping Youth in Our Community
Sure, coming up with novel marketing strategies that help our clients’ companies blossom is invigorating, but there is so much more to life than just business. That’s why, at Frontier Marketing, we recognize the importance of being connected to our community, and we pride ourselves on making a positive impact. Our involvement with the wonderful organization, Measured by Character, gives us the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of young people in our area.
Transforming Grief into a Mission
Measured by Character was founded in Denton, Texas by Wade White after he suffered an unimaginable loss. His 18-year-old son Ryan was killed in an automobile accident just a few weeks before his high school graduation. Wade’s son’s tragic accident made Wade realize that no one is guaranteed a tomorrow, so we have to make the most of today. Wade turned his painful personal heartbreak into a vehicle for promoting positive change throughout our local communities.
For almost everyone, the teenage years can be a time filled with angst and turmoil. Many teenagers are still figuring out who they are and how they fit into the big picture of life. They’re often vulnerable and may not fully understand that the actions they take today can influence their future and those around them in big ways. The main message of Measured by Character is that every life has a purpose—no matter who you are. To get this message across, the organization conducts assemblies at high schools aqnd middle schools throughout the country. The aim is simple: Teach our youth that their character can have a lasting impact—both positive and negative—on those around them. Measured by Character aspires to promote positive character growth—something often not addressed with schools’ already-packed curriculi. In MBC’s in-school assemblies, young people learn about Ryan White’s legacy and how his life was cut short. They are encouraged to step out of their comfort zones—maybe by sitting next to someone they don’t know, or even someone they’ve had a conflict with. Students are also encouraged to perform random acts of kindness to improve the world around them. It’s amazing how far even a small bit of thoughtfulness can go. It’s infectious and can cause a positive snowball effect.
Developing a Positive Legacy
Another beauty of MBC’s program is it doesn’t give up on anyone. Even if you’ve already headed down a path of bullying, drug addiction, or crime, it’s not too late to change your direction and turn your life around. Some of the young men and women who’ve taken part in the assemblies attest to bullies coming up to them afterwards, in tears, asking for forgiveness. These young people are our future. The school assemblies may only last a couple of hours, but long after the presentations have ended, the tears have dried, and the hugs are over, our young men and women take away valuable tools that will help them have positive interactions throughout their lives. It’s never too late—or early—to develop your legacy. Please visit Measured by Character to learn more about this meaningful organization that Frontier Marketing is proud to support.
